I’m not sure about you, but for me it feels like this term has flown by. It’s as if I blinked in January and now we are already at Easter! For many, the school holidays are a time of relief and refreshment, a time to recharge. For others, the Easter break has come around a bit too quickly, with the pressure of unfinished work hanging over head. As I reflect on the feelings surrounding end of term I am reminded of the Easter story, specifically what the death of Jesus on the cross means for us.
John 19:30
Therefore when Jesus had received the sour wine, He said, “It is finished!” And He bowed His head and gave up His spirit.
When Jesus was crucified for our sins, He declared “it is finished”. There is a finality to the work of the cross. Jesus doesn’t leave His mission unfinished, He didn’t die for some sins but not others; Jesus completed the work before Him. In a world of deadlines and unfinished work, Jesus is the 100% sure thing we can rely on.
IT IS FINISHED
I find I rest a lot better when I know the job has been finished. Unfinished work robs me of peace. Jesus' sacrifice on the cross accomplished what no one else could do. Trusting in the God who declares “it is finished” truly brings peace that surpasses all understanding. As we head from Easter into school holidays, my prayer for you is that you will experience this perfect peace. I hope that, in your trusting in the finished work of Jesus, you would enter into true rest.
God bless you.
