Hseekler Thein is our secondary arts teacher at ACC and has been with us since term 2. She was born in a refugee camp in Thailand and moved to Australia in 2005 with her family. Hseekler is Karen and is fluent in the language. The Karen people are a cultural and linguistic group in Burma (Myanmar) and Thailand. Due to the conflict with the Burmese military, thousands of Karen refugees have crossed the Thailand border to live in one of the twelve refugee camps, leaving their homes and villages in the forest. Hseekler and her family lived in Tham Hin refugee camp for 8 years before moving to Australia. Thanks be to God.

Hseekler has now moved from Albany to Perth to complete her studies at Curtin University but often drives home to see her family. She enjoys creating works through paintings, printmaking and crocheting. Hseekler loves listening to music and creating her own songs. She also enjoys surfing, social sports, travelling and food. She has a background in education, working with primary students as a special needs education assistant, but she thoroughly enjoys her gig at ACC as our secondary art teacher.
