Student Appearance - Uniforms

There are many arguments presented as to the benefits and disadvantages of wearing a school uniform. Traditionally, uniforms in schools teach students to dress smartly and take pride in their appearance. A uniform reminds a child that they are not at home or in leisure time, they are at school with a mission to learn. An enduring benefit of school uniforms is that it reduces “competitive dressing” by students – the social pressure to wear certain clothes. It is also said that wearing a uniform prepares students for life after education when most will be expected to dress smartly.
When a student steps outside the ACC uniform rules and dress codes, they are sending a message that they don’t respect the ACC values or expectations. A student may not be saying anything disrespectful with their words, but by trying to bend the rules, they are communicating either they don’t care, or they don’t want to follow the ACC values.
As parents, we need you to assist us in keeping our students well presented, as these rules apply during school hours, when travelling to and from school, and when doing school activities outside of school hours while wearing the ACC uniform (e.g. shopping). We hope the public looks favourably on us when they see your child walking with you with their ACC uniform correctly worn, their hair correctly styled, and no extra piercings, jewellery or makeup.
At the request of the P&F, we purchased some uniform items that you can quickly acquire in Admin. These include slouch hats and summer socks. Please help our amazing staff by encouraging your children to follow our dress code.
Your support is greatly appreciated.
