This term, our talented Year 4 and 5 students have been completing model-making and park design for Technologies, and what a journey it’s been! With creativity flowing and tools in hand, students have explored the full design thinking process, from brainstorming ideas to testing materials and constructing their own miniature model parks. Students engaged in media testing, experimenting with a variety of materials to see which ones would best bring their visions to life. Cardboard, foam, recycled plastics, and natural elements were all put to the test. Through hands-on exploration, students discovered how different textures, strengths, and flexibilities could influence their designs. Their curiosity and problem-solving skills truly shone as they made informed choices about what to use and how to use it.

Once it was time to build, students demonstrated impressive construction skills, carefully measuring, cutting, and assembling their park models with precision and care. From winding pathways and playgrounds to water features, trees and picnic areas, each model showcased thoughtful design and a strong sense of community. Collaboration is a key part of the assessment design, and it was wonderful to see students providing feedback and supporting each other, sharing tools, and celebrating each other's successes.

The final models are nearing completion, with students racing to finish them by the end of the term. The technical skill, but also a deep understanding of what makes a park welcoming and fun, has been a key focus of conversations. Whether it was a focus on sustainability, accessibility, or imaginative play, every student brought something unique to the table. We are proud of the enthusiasm, resilience, and creativity our students have shown throughout this project. Their work reminds us that the future of design is bright and in very capable hands!
